Sogetsu Pittsburgh Study Group, Since 1990
Sogetsu Pittsburgh Study Group was established by Joan Walter and Reiko Nakajima in 1990.
Sogetsu is a school of Ikebana founded in 1927 by Sofu Teshigahara, the first Iemoto.
A modern approach to the traditional Japanese art form, Sogetsu poses the possibility that fresh flower arrangements can be created “Anytime, Anywhere, by Anyone.”
Along with studying the Sogetsu Ikebana curriculum through workshops, we pursue opportunities to introduce our practice to the public and community through collaborations with various organizations, venues and artists.
Our exhibitions have included projects with the Carnegie Museum of Art, Phipps Conservatory, the Andy Warhol Museum, Contemporary Craft, the Pittsburgh Home and Garden Show, the Cleveland Botanic Garden and many more.
Join us to experience this traditional, yet modern art form.
